Everyone knows and loves the story of the Three Little Pigs. This Cajun twist on the tale maintains the integrity of the original, while introducing a bit of Louisiana culture. Here the three pigs are kicked out of their mother’s house, and build new houses out of straw, sticks and bricks. Unlike the original tale, however, the bad guy is an alligator whose ultimate fate might be to become a part of a Cajun stew.
Like the original, this version is well suited to being told orally, with repetitive, rhyming phrases, and the zany plot moves quickly and holds readers’ interest. The illustrations are lively, visually appealing watercolors, filled with humor and emotion; it’s easy to see the frustration, glee, fear and satisfaction in all the characters. This is a clever alternative to the standard tale of the pigs.

Hi! I’m the author of Three Little Cajun Pigs and I just wanted to say thanks for the nice review of my book. I had a lot of fun writing it and Jim Harris did a great job on the illustrations.
If you’re interested, I’ve posted the audio of me reciting PETITE ROUGE – A CAJUN RED RIDING HOOD and my newest Cajun book JACQUES AND DE BEANSTALK on YouTube. Just do a search on, “Mike Artell” and you’ll see the video.
My wife and I visted Williamsburg last June and had a wonderful time. Beautiful place, nice people.
Best,
Mike Artell
Hello Mr. Artell! My name is Rachel, and I am a single mother of 3 from West Monroe Louisiana. My children and I LOVE Petite Rouge Riding Hood, and Three Little Cajun Pigs. I am a Junior at Univeristy of Louisiana at Monroe, (Elementary Education major) and I am DYING to get your autograph on my books. I am reading Three Little Cajun Pigs for my Balanced Literacy class tomorrow! IS there any way possible I may be able to send you my books?
Hello! Thank you for your nice comment, and you’re very welcome. My son and I enjoyed reading this a great deal – I love twists on classic stories, and the cajun language/accent in this one is a hoot! And, really, you can’t go wrong with a pig named Thibodeaux.
Thanks, also, for the information on your YouTube videos. I will definitely check them out!
Thanks for posting this! I’d heard about a Cajun version of Les Trois Petits Cochons that involved an alligator (it’s a favorite of a friend’s child)… but had a terrible time trying to find it online. Looking forward to getting this and the other Cajun stories.
Mr. Artell:
