I’ve read a lot of children’s books over the past few years to my son, and there are a few that really stand out. Hands Can by Cheryl Willis Hudson is one of those books. Illustrated with photographs rather than drawings, it describes and shows children using their hands in a variety of activities. Boy hands, girl hands, toddler hands, big kid hands and hands of several different races catch, throw, wave, plant seeds and do all sorts of fun activities.
The simple, rhyming text is easy for very young children to follow, and the bright colors and photos of real children are relatable and provide lots of visual stimulation. Toddlers will enjoy waving and playing peekaboo with the kids in the book, and it’s probable that they’ll want to have you read it over and over again! I highly recommend this for 1-3 year olds.
