Lockhart is home to the oldest library in the state of Texas. While it was a grand place 100 years ago, in recent years the books have become outdated and dirty, the residents of Lockhart have found other things to do and the library has grown quiet.
In walks RoseAleta Laurell, Lockhart’s new spirited and spunky librarian who is surprised to discover the town’s children think the library is only for adults. RoseAleta proclaims, “Everyone should love coming to the library!” And so begins a fund-raising campaign to raise funds for a new children’s area. When the traditional fund raising efforts prove to be unsuccessful, RoseAleta takes to the roof of the library and shouts “I will stay on this roof until we have raised enough money for our children’s section.”
Children will love to read about RoseAleta’s experiences on the roof and will be proud of her dedication to the children of Lockhart for finding money for library improvements in this unusual and dangerous way.
