Here’s another great book by our pal, Mo Willems. Leonardo is a terrible monster – terrible at being a monster, that is. He’s not weird looking, he doesn’t have a thousand teeth and he can’t ever seem to scare anyone. So, Leonardo comes up with a plan to find the most scaredy-cat kid in the world and scare the tuna salad out of him! A little boy named Sam seems to fit the bill and cries when Leonardo sneaks up on him unexpectedly. Leonardo is thrilled to have finally scared the tuna salad out of someone. Or did he? Denying that the monster frightened him, Sam recites a litany of things that have upset him. Leonardo decides that being a wonderful friend might be more satisfying than being a terrible monster.
Everyone I know that has read this book absolutely loves it. The story is cute, and Willems’ illustrations are clever and amusing, as always. Parents and kids alike will get a big kick out of Sam’s tirade and are sure to want to read it over and over again. I highly recommend this book for everyone 3 and up.
