Fuddles is your ultimate, pampered feline until he realizes that all he does is eat, sleep, and visit his litter box. He decides he needs an adventure, so he heads for the door. But Mom says you cannot go outside. Fuddles cannot believe it, no one has ever said no to him before! But the lure of an adventure cannot be ignored, so he plots and plans. He exercises, practices his skills and waits for the right moment.
That moment comes on a lazy Sunday when the children go out to play and leave the door open. Off goes Fuddles. First he tries to catch a bird, but no luck. He falls into a yucky bird bath, and he tries to climb a tree. He encounters a large dog, and as darkness comes, he realizes he is hungry, tired, in need of his litter box, and lost.
As he searches for home, it gets darker, he becomes more scared, and realizes how much he misses his family. Finally he hears a familiar voice and sees some familiar, friendly faces. Back home, being spoiled and cuddled, Fuddles realizes there is no place like home.
The book is beautifully illustrated and Fuddles is a charming, anthropomorphic cat whose facial expressions will make you giggle. This is a simple adventure story that will charm children and adults alike. This is Frans Vischer’s first picture book. Let’s hope there will be many more.
