This new book really tickled me and I am looking forward to sharing it and giggling with a small group at pre-school or kindergarten level. The tale begins with some dads who just never grow up!
“Dads who haven’t grown up still read the comics and watch cartoons – their kids are lucky.” The book depicts many different dads. There are dads doing things like drinking milk through a straw with their kids and mixing up words in bedtime stories. Their clothes don’t have to match. They always want to join in with the kids whether playing soccer or sailing down slides. “And sometimes they forget how big they are.” The cast of multicultural families is a big plus. The author, Marjorie Blain Parker admits that her husband was the inspiration to this ode to dads who are young at heart. The illustrator confesses too that he saw himself in this picture of playful dads. This would be great for a Father’s Day gift or simply a gift for a new father.
Marjorie Blain Parker is the author of Your Kind of Mommy and Mama’s Little Duckling.
