This book will strike a chord with parents that allow their children to sleep with them. When Ben was a baby, he liked to sleep in his parent’s bed. But as he grew bigger, there did not seem to be enough room. And Ben’s father had a hard time sleeping. So, Ben’s father buys a bigger bed. This works for a while until another sibling joins the family. Again, the sleeping arrangement works for awhile until the birth of twins. And then the birth of triplets! The store does not have a bed big enough for everyone, so Dad decides to build one himself. The bed is so big that it takes up the whole second floor. Now, the family has a bed big enough for everyone. But, the biggest bed in the world is also the heaviest bed in the world. Children will be surprised to see what happens next. Now will Dad be able to sleep?
The pencil and watercolor artwork is very appealing. There is much detail in the illustrations. Children will be amused to see that while the family is growing in size, so are their pets’ families. And of course, the cat and her kittens and the dog and her puppies, all want to sleep on the bed, too. This humorous story is perfect for bedtime.
