Orange and brown endpapers welcome the reader into this Thanksgiving poem. The text is streamlined and printed in large black type which makes it friendly to the beginning reader. The pictures are detailed and humorous as they show members of an extended family enjoying the many blessings that they list. “Thank you for play dates, for swings and for slides./Thank you for hopscotch and piggyback rides.”
Doris Barrette’s watercolors are small masterpieces as they show the details of a family and their farmhouse. The scenes are full of action and the many large and small belongings of a large, busy family. I wanted to move in with these folks when I read the story.
This book will be best used in a family setting as Mom and Dad snuggle on the sofa with the children. The illustrations are large in size but the detail will be lost if the group is too big.
