Two brothers playing with a toy train set this story in motion. The parents join the boys to enjoy a ride on a zoo train as a friendly giraffe looks on. Oliver, the older brother, describes the trips he will take when he is a train man. Of course, he’ll let his little brother share the adventures. Other train lovers will enjoy the imaginative journey as it contrasts with the matter-of-fact narration that Oliver supplies.
The illustrations are brightly colored using acrylics with a multi-cultural cast of characters. The blue skies and sunshine and happy faces add to the joy of this easy to read story. This should be popular at story time with a group or at bedtime with only one.
Zimmerman and Clemesha, a wife-and-husband team, have also produced Digger Man and Fire Engine Man featuring the same brothers.
