I am a huge fan of picture books that you actually sing rather then read and no one has quite mastered this art as well as Jane Cabrera. I often find myself wondering if Ms. Cabrera is a children’s librarian because this book is absolutely PERFECT for storytime. Not only do you sing the book (and if you’re doing it right the kids are singing too) but there are actions to go with the words. “If your happy and you know it clap your hands!” Cabrera’s simple, yet vibrant, illustrations are easily seen from across the room. We work our way from the clapping monkeys, through the foot stomping elephants, to the jumping frogs. I haven’t found a crowd yet who hasn’t loved this book. Read it one-on-one or with a group and don’t forget to Clap Your Hands!
If you like If You’re Happy and You Know It! don’t forget to check out some of her other fantastic works such as Ten in the Bed, Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush, and The Wheels on the Bus.
