Dream Snow is a Christmas favorite with children and Youth Services staff here at the Williamsburg Regional Library. Dream Snow is a quiet, simple story about a farmer and his animals. As he sleeps on Christmas Eve, the farmer dreams that a blanket of snow falls. He awakes and realizes that it has indeed snowed! His five farm animals are called One, Two, Three, Four and Five. His tree is called “Tree!” The farmer, who we see is Santa, decorates his tree, collects his animals, and throws his sack of toys over his shoulder. The reader or listeners can press a red button on the last page to hear tinkling, holiday music much to their amazement! Eric Carle’s primary colored, collage illustrations enhance the simple text in this book.
Dream Snow is perfect for a seasonal, group reading for pre-schoolers through first grade. It can be used as a one-on-one reading at bedtime with any age child around Christmas. Other favorites by Eric Carle are his famous The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Clumsy Click Beetle. Eric Carle has written over seventy picture books.
