A young girl named Nonie isn’t sure that she likes her family anymore. She is sick of eating mush for breakfast. It is too squishy, yucky, and yellow. She is also sick of listening to her little baby brother cry. As a solution, Nonie decides to go live with her Grandma. Nonie and her grandmother go to Sunday mass and the church picnic. There they meet up with the rest of Nonie’s family. While on a paddle boat with her father, Nonie observes a family of ducks. And as she sees all the other children leaving with their relatives, she is reminded of how much she loves her own family. Now Nonie has to decide if she wants to go back to her family or stay with her grandmother.
