Oh, better watch out for Ol’ Mama Squirrel. Cats, owls and dogs can’t get near to harm Ol’ Mama Squirrel’s babies, “Not on my watch,” she declares. “Chook, Chook, Chook,” she scolds.
Mama Squirrel doesn’t just limit herself to scolding live predators when it comes to protecting her babies. She will bravely stand up to the likes of kites and airplanes that happen to fly anywhere near her babies.
One day Ol’ Mama Squirrel’s bravery is challenged when a big grizzly bear comes sniffing around her tree. Ol’ Mama Squirrel immediately jumps into action defending her babies with a, “Chook, chook, chook!”
When the bear lets Mama Squirrel know that he is not frightened and intends to do harm to her babies and tree, she is at first frightened. She quickly jumps into action and calls on all the other mama squirrels in the area for help. The bear soon realizes that he is beat and runs away, never to be seen from again.
With colorful illustration, a rapid moving story and a tough but likeable mama squirrel for the main character, Ol’ Mama Squirrel will put a smile on any child’s face.
