Sid is a cute and cuddly pup who believes he can fly. One day he flies all the way to school but none of his friends saw him flying. They tease him saying, “Dogs do not fly.” Even his teacher comments, “All dogs walk and jump and run,/but dogs don’t fly-it can’t be done.” This makes Sid sad. When he begins to believe flying dogs don’t exist, then he cannot fly. Later at home Sid’s parents make things okay when the puppy learns his father’s long-kept secret. What could the secret be? Can dogs really fly?
Brightly colored illustrations add to the appeal of this excellent story time choice. The rhyming verses and the positive self-esteem message will work well in either a group or a family setting.
